Original lithograph signed and dated by Shepard Fairey, American contemporary artist, founder of OBEY.
This lithograph, created during the Iraq War, is inspired by the popular anti-war mantra of the 1960s, "Make love, not war." Here, Shepard Fairey asserts the need for creative rather than destructive acts. The Art Nouveau style is a further reference to the influence of this art on the hippie and psychedelic art of the 1960s.
Encased in a floral garland, the female figure appears more self-confident and real than ethereal. The two brushes placed under her portrait not only refer to a classic tool of artistic production, but also resemble spears, which makes the message, otherwise acceptable and more impactful.
